Whitby counselling & psychotherapy is run by a group of professionally trained and experienced therapists, who all undergo regular supervision of their therapeutic practice and participate in their own personal psychotherapy which helps support their practice. All our therapists are members of an appropriate professional body (UKCP/BACP) and adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice to ensure their work is safe, ethical, and in the best interests of their clients. We work with anybody from the age of 16+ with a diverse range of emotional and psychological needs.
We are a trauma-informed, non-pathologising service. All our therapists have extensive knowledge of psychological trauma; the impact on mind and body and the emotional responses to that. We believe that therapy is there for everybody, no matter your life experience. We all deserve a space to be heard; a space to tell our story.
Therapy can give you the opportunity to process thoughts, feelings, and experiences of any nature in a safe and confidential space. With the right therapist, this explorative process can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships to others and the world around you. Having greater awareness can give you increased power and agency over your life, and lead to a more secure sense of meaning and purpose.
Meet our team;
Hi, I'm Amy; I’m a fully qualified psychotherapist. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy Professional Practice from York St John University and I’m a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I’ve also gained a level 4 certificate in Counselling Children through Place2Be.
I have extensive experience of working with children, adolescents, and adults. Over the last 12 years I’ve worked as a counsellor/psychotherapist in various settings such as, primary schools, further education settings, local authorities, women’s aid charities, recovery services and hospices, and along the way gained valuable experience and knowledge.
I'm a passionate feminist, and advocate for a non-pathologising approach to working with emotional distress and human suffering. I truly believe the relationship the therapist and client co-create together is the most important factor in growth, healing, and increased self-awareness; coming together with commitment and respect, openness, genuineness, a willingness to reflect, and a desire to understand can be enlightening and transformative.
